(FERM) SCAPES

2023

Photography by Cha Blasco and Christian Kleinhenz.
In the shadow of the enormous monuments of our time – of technological marvels and the echoes of globalization – lies the everyday, the humble. In the soft dimness of the kitchen, where the passage of time is marked by the slow dance of fermentation, we discover a different kind of universe. A universe where every little sound, every rustle, carries its own melody.
Cha Blasco delve deep into this kitchen universe. Contact microphones within our kitchen tools capture every note from the birth of sauerkraut. This symphony is not only a tribute to home-grown and locally produced vegetables’ dance with time but also a reminder that every little gesture, every choice we make, has the potential to shape our future.
With the aid of sound, Blasco moves from the dominance of traditional narratives to the more subtle, hidden moments. We find ourselves in the kitchen, where small actions carry great significance
(ferm)Scapes invites a moment of stillness. A moment where we can listen to the quiet voices of our everyday, those whispering of sustainability, community, and a future where every point, no matter how small, truly counts.
