OFELIA REVERSED

theater / musical

2017

Photography by Casia Bromberg.

In Shakespeare’s Hamlet, Ophelia drowns—or takes her own life. In this performance, life calls her back. Ophelia rises, returns, and moves through scenes, times, lives, and dreams. Who is she now, and what does she want to tell us here, now?

Ofelia Reversed is a newly written solo performance by and with music and performing artist Ida Lod. Through texts, songs, and theatrical interpretations, the piece explores questions of victimhood, madness, and the origins of women. It is a poetic narrative about the internalized patriarchy, the reclamation of feminine power, and the search for a place of one’s own in the world.
